le château de launay-Hasard

The Château takes its original name from an ancient alder tree plantation which is a member of the birth family (L'Aulnay) which belonged to the "Hasard" family in the 14th century. It was then commonly called Château de Launay.

Built around the 13th century, it was destroyed and then rebuilt between the 15th and 17th centuries. It was at its peak in the 19th century, thanks to Jules de la Pilorgerie, writer and mayor of Châteaubriant, who enlarged it and restored its original nobility. To the south, he added a façade in the most beautiful neo-gothic style in tufa stone. To the north, it retains its rocky character with slate and schist - a local metamorphic rock..

The Château de Launay is made up of two buildings arranged parallel in an east-west direction, flanked by four imposing square towers with four-sided roofs and watchtowers. The ensemble encloses an interior courtyard of 1300m2, which is enhanced by a circular pool surrounded by a formal French garden with its two dovecote turrets.

Originally, the estate covered almost 500 acres, but divided up by the various estates, it now extends over 14 acres of protected green belt, which includes a pretty wood of just over 6 acres and a large pond of 3/4 of an acre.
